Athletics' dominate Montrose with 21-Hit Performance

HOWARD LAKE, Minn., - A 21-hit onslaught powered the Athletics to a 14-3 victory over the Montrose/Waverly Stingers in North Star League baseball action on Sunday evening. The game was shortened to 7-innings by way of the 10-run rule.

The Athletics rebounded with a win after losing a heartbreaker earlier in the day to the Maple Lake Lakers 9-7.  The game orginally scheduled with the Stingers was postponed twice because of weather and was finally made up.

Offensively the Athletics extended their first inning scoring streak to four games and took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The biggest scoring inning came in the fourth when six runners crossed the plate.

Starting pitcher, Tyler Hannan scattered five hits in five innngs of work, and gave up three runs. Jeff Althoff finished the game in relief and struckout 6 of the 7 batters he faced in two innings of work.

Offensively the Athletics were led by Joey Althoff who finished the game 3-fo-5 with 3 RBIs.

With the win the Athletics improved their North Star League record to 13-6.  Next up, the Athletics host the Howard Lake Orphans on Wednesday, July 22nd at 7:30 p.m. at Delano Municipal Baseball Park. The Orphans are currently in second place in the North Star League with a 14-5 league record and the Athletics trail by one game with just three games remaining.
