Errors again plague Athletics in 6-5 loss

Errors cost the Athletics their chance at securing a regular season sweep over Howard Lake as the Orphans scored four unearned runs in the game to defeat the Athletics, 6-5.

Offensively the Athletics continued their first inning scoring streak to five games jumping out to an early 3-0 lead on four hits off of starting Howard Lake pitcher Adam Koch. Kevin Jaunich and Toby Hanson led off the inning with singles and scored on a single by Joey Althoff.  Jesse Berg also singled home Jay Stevens in the inning.

The Orphans would tie the game in the third inning on three unearned runs.  Delano would regain the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. The Athletics would take a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that scored Toby Hanson.

Howard Lake would trim the lead to 5-4 in the seventh inning on an unearned run.  Clinging to a one-run lead entering the ninth inning the Athletics gave up a pair of runs to the Orphans and went down in order in the bottom of the ninth in an ugly, 6-5 loss.

With the loss, the Athletics will now likely be the #4 seed in the upcoming Region 12C playoffs.  The Athletics have two regular season games remaining versus the Rockford River Bandits and the Cokato Kings.
