Athletics return from break with Sunday night win

After a few days off for the Delano Fourth of July celebration the Delano Athletics returned to the diamond hosting the Maple Plain Diamond Devils on Sunday evening at Municipal Baseball Park. Offensively, the Athletics struggles continued, managing just 6-hits against Maple Plain starting pitcher Pat Mcpherson.

The Diamond Devils put early pressure on the Athletics scoring pair of runs in the top of the first.  The Athletics would tie the in the bottom of the first with 2-runs, including an RBI double by Trevor Jaunich.

The Athletics would take the lead in the second inning 3-2 when [Josh Hilter] scored on a wild pitch.  The Athletics would score three more runs in the third inning on another RBI double by Trevor Jaunich and a pair of running scoring errors and wild pitches by the Maple Plain Diamond Devils.

Starting pitcher Jake Gleason picked up the win for the Athletics scattering 11-hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.In relief Cody Mathisen tossed 2 1/3 innings scattering one hit, and worked his way out of 1-out bases loaded jam in the ninth inning to end the game.

Offensively. Trevor Jaunich led the Athletics going 2-for-4 with pair of doubles and 2-RBIs. Despite scoring seven runs, only three of Delano's runs were earned.
